Professor George Montgomery was a scholar, a poet, and a man about town.  His catch phrase was, "Get educated”. He came from humble beginnings. As a stowaway on a cargo ship, he arrived in England in 1873. He was remarkably clever. After only a few short years, he managed to acquire several degrees and eventually became a professor at the University of Cambridge in 1886. In the 1890's he published a handful of books. Most noteworthy were his poetry collections: Hairy Thoughts (1892) and Wonder Chimp! (1896). He retired in 1923 and published his bestselling memoir, I, Monkey (1924).
