Miss Gertrude Karlsson was responsible for reviving an old tradition in the town of Dover Plains. It was a curious archery contest that was a cross between a Sadie Hawkins Dance and the William Tell legend. The best eligible bachelors in town (who happened to also be the best archers in town) were pooled together in a competition involving greats feats of archery. There were three levels of competition; distance target shooting, moving objects, and finally the two remaining suitors had to shoot an apple placed on the head of one of the eligible lady of choice.  Miss Gertrude picked out the largest green apple she could find!
